Modern Day Rap

Hey lads

Pretty favorable opinion, but is it the beat that carries modern rap/trap music?
A lot of old heads often spout that modern day rappers wouldn't be anything without the beats behind them, which I believe to be true to an extent. This is blatant with artists like Famous Dex, Rich the kid and so on. But it's this conversation that got me into deeper thinking, and hear me out on this.
For example YBN Nahmir, all of his beats slap, from his first come up on 'Rubbin off the paint', to 'Bounce out with that'. But without the clout, if you put anyone else on 'Rubbin off the paint', would of it become a hit? Rappers that can rap still have respect in our generation, but looking past this, the rest of the artists in the industry that don't have amazing flows or bars; have character. Going back to someone like Dex. If Famous Dex wasn't the ignorant, loud mouth, over the top character, would the beat still carry him. With all this it's sorta hard to decide who's popping because of clout, character, lyricism or originality, but what I've taken from it all is that rappers of this generation aren't the same as in the 2000's or the 90's, but that doesn't mean they don't deserve their fame. In the words of Dre, they say rap's changed, they wanna know how I feel about it. The genre's evolved, and just because artists don't have the same lyrical game as they used to, doesn't mean they're not skilled at what they do. Is this fax or fiction?
HML on twitter or sum shit if you wanna clap back at me or if you agree. @yrnjesse_
